American Express Presents BST Hyde Park.

The brief

Star Live has worked with AEG Presents to deliver the temporary infrastructure behind American Express Presents BST Hyde Park since 2013, creating the engineered structures that support multiple major live productions and a premium spectator environment.

The project encompasses 45 structures across the site, including the Great Oak Stage, Vista VIP grandstand and hospitality suites, Rainbow Stage, North Entrance Arches and ancillary structures.

Star Live’s involvement begins at the development stage, working alongside AEG Presents to translate creative concepts into practical solutions that can be engineered, fabricated and delivered at scale across the Hyde Park site.

The challenge

Delivering BST Hyde Park is effectively multiple major projects within one event. Each area brings its own construction requirements, while headline artists have individual production needs that can require significant changes to staging, platforms and infrastructure in between each show.

All of this must be delivered within a tightly managed programme. Heavy construction takes place across an intensive two-week period, involving around 120 truck movements, 30 crane days, up to five cranes operating on site and more than 120 Star Live personnel at peak.

At the same time, Star Live must protect the natural landscape of the historic Royal Park, consider its neighbours while delivering the high-quality finish expected across the event.

Our solution

Star Live brings together creative problem-solving, engineering expertise and large-scale project delivery to manage the complexity across the site.

The Great Oak Stage demonstrates that approach. Engineered to support a distinctive wraparound screen weighing approximately 70 tonnes and a 15-metre artificial oak tree, the structure must also operate as a safe, functional workplace for production teams and provide the flexibility to reconfigure at pace for multiple headline productions.

Across the wider event, Star Live has helped AEG Presents develop and deliver structures including the Rainbow Stage, North Entrance Arches and redesigned VIP grandstand and premium hospitality suites. From early creative development and fabrication through to engineering and on-site delivery, the team works collaboratively to find practical solutions to ambitious briefs.

Impact

Star Live’s work delivers more than event infrastructure. It provides AEG Presents with a flexible platform capable of supporting a changing programme of major artists while maintaining a cohesive, premium environment across the event.

That infrastructure also creates tangible commercial opportunities. The redesigned VIP grandstand has enabled AEG Presents to broaden its hospitality and premium ticketing offer while creating an important asset for sponsors and event partners.

Star Live has also helped elevate the look and feel of spaces across the site, developing distinctive structures including artist and partner treehouses that turn functional event infrastructure into part of the wider creative environment.

The result is infrastructure that works creatively, technically and commercially, backed by the scale and problem-solving capability required to deliver one of Star Live’s most complex recurring projects.
