Our history.
Star Live’s story began in 1976 when Roger Barrett, now Technical Director, founded Star Hire as an audio rental company. By 1983 the company had entered stage building and, in 1990, launched the pioneering VerTech™ system at the Stone Roses’ legendary Spike Island concert. This marked the start of a lasting legacy of innovation focussed on providing stages that always work for production teams.
International expansion followed in 2006 with the opening of Star China in Shanghai, and in 2008 the business merged with Star Rigging and Orbit Stages UK to become Star Events Group. Major investments included temporary seating and covered grandstands in 2010, and the Ultra™ truss system in 2017, designed specifically for Adele’s world tour.
In 2019 the company rebranded as Star Live, ushering in new leadership, a refreshed strategy and ambitious goals. Key milestones since then have included a move into Design & Build, the launch of the Titan™ stage system, and significant investment in modular Starbox units.
Growth accelerated in 2023 with new offices in Saudi Arabia and Kuala Lumpur, supported by private equity investment from LDC and a series of landmark projects including the Ryder Cup, Wimbledon and the King’s Coronation celebrations.
By 2025 Star Live had delivered the Battersea Power Station project, evolved the Ultra Stage™ system for Oasis’ UK & Ireland tour, grown Star Live Arabia in KSA, and relocated its UK operations to larger premises in Milton Keynes, reinforcing its position as a global leader in live event infrastructure and innovative, fast-track modular construction.
2026 marks 50 years of Star Live, a milestone we look forward to celebrating with our clients, suppliers, partners and, above all, our exceptional team.
