Star Live is celebrating its first 50 years!
What began in 1976 with Roger Barrett hiring out audio equipment to studios and venues has grown into a global partner delivering large-scale structural solutions around the world. Built on Roger’s vision and drive, Star Live has never stood still. From audio services to the design and delivery of ambitious temporary and permanent structures, the business has expanded in scale, capability and confidence.

🏌🏼♂️Sport may be the main event – but it’s no longer the whole experience.
As sport and entertainment continue to converge, the infrastructure behind them is evolving too. Stages, hospitality, seating and fan spaces are no longer standalone elements; they're designed to work together to create a seamless event experience.

Some projects become part of your story 🎾
For the Star Live team, Wimbledon is one of those projects. While the finished venue may look familiar each summer, every installation is the result of months of planning and collaboration. From our teams in Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire to those on site at Wimbledon, hundreds of decisions are made long before the first ball is struck, ensuring everything is ready to the exacting standards The Championships demand. Each April, our team returns to The All England Lawn Tennis Club and Roehampton to deliver the extensive temporary structures that support The Championships and the Wimbledon Qualifying Competition, creating the Southern Village and hospitality, retail and operational spaces that help the event come to life.
Cannes Lions 2026 🦁
While Cannes Lions is known for creativity, conversations and hospitality, what often goes unseen is the scale of infrastructure required to bring these experiences to life. This year, Star Live delivered the structural foundations behind three major beachfront projects: the full build for Sport Beach, two structures for Google with Amplify, and a bespoke pergola structure for Canva with Public School.
Download XXIII 🤘 Three unforgettable days of live music.
Download Festival XXIII marked the first major deployment of Star Live's Titan stage system as part of a new partnership with Live Nation. At the heart of the Main Arena stood the festival's new main stage, designed and constructed using Titan – Star Live's next-generation staging system and now the UK's largest festival stage. Engineered for the demands of today's most ambitious productions, Titan delivers exceptional roof loading capacity, advanced wind management technology, enhanced access throughout the structure for safer and more efficient working at height, and Star Live's SMART lifting system, helping production teams work faster, safer and more effectively. Supporting the arena were four new 25m Titan SQ AV towers, providing structural support for Download's iconic cylindrical video screens, audience lighting and audio delay systems. V-Tower delay positions, FOH structures, camera platforms and viewing facilities completed the infrastructure package, creating a world-class production environment for artists, crews and fans alike.

Star Live was awarded Project of the Year for Commercial/Retail/Leisure at the MMC Awards on 7 May 2026, for our work on NEON at Battersea Power Station. This was a brilliantly ambitious project and one that pushed what immersive spaces can look and feel like within one of London’s most iconic redevelopment projects. Delivered as a 3,200m² modular immersive venue, the project combined modern construction methods with permanent building standards – including a 128-tonne roof installation using 48 synchronised hoists, a programme delivered 60% faster than traditional methods and a structure with 95% reusable materials, including steel, MEP and façade systems.
🏋 3,500 seats for a weekend built on movement, energy and performance.
Working in collaboration with LST Venues and C6 Works, Star Live installed a temporary seating solution at Drumsheds, London, for the World Fitness Project – Tour Stop 1, held from 1–3 May. With 3,500 seats in place, the focus went beyond capacity – balancing accessibility, audience flow and safe egress, all engineered to support safe, efficient movement throughout. A great example of shared expertise in action, bringing together the right teams to deliver a smooth audience experience from first rep to final result🏅
🦖 👑 From prehistoric giants to ancient royalty. Same structure. New story.
In 2025, Star Live delivered the original design and build of NEON at Battersea Power Station – a modular, semi-permanent exhibition space created with flexibility built in from day one. The venue opened in June 2025 with Jurassic World: The Exhibition. At the end of its run in January, the space closed for the removal of that experience and the installation of its successor, Ramses and the Pharaohs’ Gold. During that transition, our team delivered a targeted upgrade programme to enhance performance, future usability and visitor experience.

🎉 Roger Barrett – now officially a Chartered Engineer, and full Member of the IET.
After an 18 month assessment, Roger’s knowledge and hands on experience have been recognised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Engineering Council as meeting the highest professional standard an engineer can achieve in the UK. Even more impressive – he achieved CEng having left school at 15 and being self-taught. In the specialist world of temporary staging and live event structures, that demands serious experience, demonstrable competence and the ability to evidence engineering excellence against traditional benchmarks. This is about more than letters after a name. It is recognition that live event engineering is complex, safety critical work and, yes, very much a ‘proper’ job!
